Default Any advice on TB cleaning?

Are there any tricks to getting a stock throttle body to look new again?

I have mine off, sitting on my bench. I've been scrubbing it with throttle body cleaner and rags/toothbrush/small scrapers.... but I dont know if I'm really making much of a difference.

Any advice? Who here has their 20 year old TB looking like new?

I used a stainless steel brush on mine. Gives it a subdued shine. Not a "new" aluminum look but I like it. As far as I know the only things that will give you that new aluminum look are some pretty strong acids I wouldn't care to mess with.

Of all the posts about engine clean up, I have never seen anyone say the painted the TB! I was wondering, and this may help you out too, can they be painted and I would think you could use high temp paint and use a small brush to do it vs taping and spraying...is this a no - no for TB's?

You could paint it or polish it. You wouldn't really need a high temp paint for it. When I cleaned up my TB I used a brass brush on my drill. You can you a die grinder to. There are also media wheels, plastic or rubber, that clean very well. A bench grinder would also be helpful. I would not clean it by hand. When I cleaned the intake on mine I also ground down some of the seems and rough parts on the TB and plenum.

Thanks for the input so far- but I should I have specified, that I am not interested in painting or polishing the TB... I'm just trying to get it to look like new aluminum again.

Like the guys said above, you're going to spend a lot of time and possibly ruin it trying to get the aluminum new looking. The Eastwood Company makes spray paint specifically for aluminum coating.

To make it look like new, you basically polish it. If you don't want to you could try taking it to a shop and having them hot tank it. I wouldn't recomend that though as there is a plastic fitting or two in one that I have.

Disassemble and media blast it with some glass bead. It will look like new.

Clean polished and reworked TB on my HSR, same as stock 87 TB (48mm), so polishing works well....

Wow Vinnie Did you fabricate that yourself? That looks really nice!!

How did you polish all of the small parts of the TB? Did you use a dremmel?

Default gaskets

If you take it completely apart, check availability of gasket sets. I had a hard time finding gaskets in my area, had to wait as they were sent from Virginia.

That looks awesome...

Just not the look I want. I prefer stock. I'm going to check if I can find a bead blasting place near me.
