Default Opti takes out ignition module?

My STOCK 94 LT1 STOPPED SUDDENLY WHILE TAKING A NICE CURVE ON A COUNTRY ROAD. I TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO GET IT GOING AGAIN BUT IT JUST WOULDN'T FIRE BEYOND A SPUTTER. REGRETFULLY HAD IT TOWED ON A FLATBED (THE TOW GUY WAS VERY CAREFULL, MAYBE 'CAUSE I WATCHED EVERY MOVE) WITH NO DAMAGE. SO- TWO DAYS LATER THE MECHANIC SAYS WHEN THE OPTI FRIED IT TOOK OUT THE IGNITION MODULE WITH IT. DID I GET SCREWED ON THIS DEAL OR HAS THIS HAPPENED TO ANYBODY ELSE?

Usually what happens is the COIL tanks first, and it takes out the ignition control module (ICM). That's what happened to me. My Opti was fine.

I can't think of an Opti failure mode that would have taken out the ignition module. The Opti does not "talk" directly to the module. It sends two pulse trains to the PCM, which then triggers the module.

Be well,

I Did'nt Think The Opt Was Directly (or Electrically) Related To The Ign Module Either. Coil Is Good. Just Seems Odd That Both Items Would Belly Up At The Same Time. Maybe A "short" Developed In The Module When The Opti Went. I Have Seen "weak' Parts Go When Another Goes Close By.
