I have owned my 1985 for 4 years and ever since I purchased it (65 000miles then), the ride wasn't were I thought it should be. When I drive in a groove on the road, the car moves to one side or another, and in a good road it is also somehow nervous. I really have to drive it. New inner tie rod ends and lower ball joints helped a little.
The shop has not found anything special. Tires are 245/50, and I think alignment is ok, because they wear equally, well I am not sure.. Is this a common problem after 85 000 carefully driven miles?
Should I replace all ball joints, bushings, shock absorbers and bearings? What is Your opinion? How are polyurethane pushings like? I just want my Vette to be like new on the road, Im not going to race.
I would like to thank everyone for being so helpfull regarding my questions.
I would check shocks, seems like they maybe weak..
Push car down on a corner, let it dip back,it should move a little higher than the position at beginning and then set back to original height..
if there are a few cycles than the shock is bad...
the pre 87 cars were a bit twitchy... in 87 or so, GM redid the front suspension, adding more caster.
There was an articleon how to improve the caster numbers on the older C4s. basically, you removed the front upper arm, and swapped the mounting blocks from front to rear... check Vette or Corvette Fever's web sites for more details. If I can find the article, I will let you know.
Thank You very much!
The shocks are ok, but I shall think the bushings. Bushings are so hard to examine and replace. Caster sounds interesting, never heard before. Vader86, Your car is going to be great!
Great Forum!

My 1985 is not Z-51. So far, front sway bar bushings were bad. Now there is not that squeezing sound in front end anymore. I shall keep on. Thank You!
