383 Startup OK but melting plug wires: HELP!
Got the 383 running, couple of issues:
1. The large diameter HEI and Accel 300 wires make it very difficult to adjust time at the distributor.
2. With the TPIS headers # 5 plug (Accel plugs) is very close to the header, too close to not touch it with the plug boot. Is the Champion RC12YC going to be shorter?
Anybody got some thoughts here?
BTW, solved my emissions issues by running both DFI and 7730 ECM's, can plug in either one, harness is integrated for both.

Buy the thermo insulators for your spark plug boots. I've used 'em before and they work great. I tried the shorty header plugs and different wires, but ultimately found the best results with a stock length plug and the insulators.
