Default Need Parts Help Asap

I need some help finding and ordering parts. My 1989 Coupe is currently in the shop getting the automatic transmission rebuilt. He says he needs two parts that he is unable to locate. Can anyone point me to a place that may have the parts and has a quick turn arount time?

I need a rear main engine seal

I need an exhaust hanger. It is located by the y-pipe near the catalytic converter that hangs onto or near the transmission. The mechanic says the part number is 10165305?

The guy fixing the transmission says that he will put in a new main rear engine seal for free and the universal joints as well (I already have them) if I just supply the parts, The car is on the lift with the tranny out?

I am in the southern NY area just bordering New Jersey.

Any local auto parts store should be able to supply the one piece rear main seal. They are readily available from Autozone, O'Reilly, and Advance in the South U.S. The muffler hanger would be a GM service item, which due to the age of your car will probably mean Mid America Direct or some other vette supply house.

Best of Luck,
Aaron

Contemporary Corvette is a salvage yard north of Philly, and not too far from you. They could help with the exhaust hanger I think.

They're prices seem really high, but if you're in a pinch, maybe it's worth it.

Thanks for the assistance. The rear seal is not the issue, I already have one on order, and will pick it up tomorrow. GM Direct, Mid-America, and Ecklers donot have the hanger. I'll keep looking. Thanks for the lead at Contempory Corvette. Any other help, please???

The real Muffler Shops have all kinds of hangers and they weld them into place, Most of the time.........

Understand you have to go to a real muffler shop.....Midas will try to change your oil and flush your radiator.

Take the old hanger to a muffler shop they should have a universal that can be made to work. I took mine to NAPA and fabbed one from a universal hanger.

It's not really a critical part, and any muffler guy worth his salt can fab something good up.

I would have donated you mine had I not cut it. But yeah, a good muffler shop should be able to fab up something suitable.

That is the correct number for the upper portion of the hanger
between the end of the forward 'Y' and the front of the catalytic
converter. (There is also a lower saddle or strap that completes the
hanger - p/n appears to be 10052279).

As jhammons01 mentions, 10165305 appears to be NLA. However,
if time is not an issue, Chris at Superior has had success finding
NOS parts that no longer display in the usual parts inventory system.

You might post a WTB in the 'C4 Parts For Sale' section. There
are also several members in the process of parting out their cars
who may be able to help.

Check the sidebar along the left side of the forum for vendors who
recycle Corvette parts.

Be aware that the correct U-joints are coated to delay/prevent
galvanic corrosion arising from the dissimilar metals.

Thanks for the info on the hanger. You had mentioned about the u-joints. I did feel very confident with this Transmission shop because he did mention several corvette issues, including what you had said about the joints. He hasn't nickled or dime me to death (I haed yet to see the final bill) but is was nice for him to say "you bring me the parts and I will swap them out for free." I'll keep you posted!!
