this has been on my mind awhile, just went out to take a qwik
look. thinking ditch the air pump,go electric water pump, idler between alt and ac comp. looks like possible problem at ac bracket water pump (the pic in my mind is csi or similar) and amount of belt wrap around ac comp. anybody done this or something like it? thoughts? reason it can't be done?
I have thought about doing an electric pump but my good friend is a mechanic, and always gets ftd in his Vette, and he said don't do it. The stock pump is very reliable. An electric pump is not likely to be as reliable. Also, the alternator on our cars is not the most underworked alternator around. Why add more draw to it? I'm sure you will get others saying you should do it and you will gain 50 h/p in doing so. This is just mine, and a great mechanic's opinion.
