Wierd question for gears slipping
I posted this in general discussion, with 30 views and no replies. Wondering if anyone up here has any clue what else it might be before I take it down to my tranny shop. I couldn't catch them before they closed for the weekend.
On my '90(auto), for the last day or two the speedometer digitally will hit all sorts of random values especially when Im in OD. It has something to do with the speedo sensor near the transmission I believe. It used to do this before eventually hitting 0 mph and staying there while I was obviously moving, but wasnt fixed because I was told it couldnt be unless I hit the junkyard for **** as far as parts go. Anyway, the problem since last night is that when it goes haywire in OD it seems like its randomly changing gears during a drive. I'll be doin 50 and suddenly it feels like its switchin down to 2nd or 3rd and almost randomly back up again, but only when the digital speedo values go haywire. I'm gonna try to take it down to the tranny shop to see wtf they think it is, but I wanted to chime in to see if anyone else has an idea. TiA.
What does your tach do, that should tell you if you are shifting. It sounds like you lost the sender at the trans, and I believe Autozone stocks them. The 90 700r4 doesn't shift electronically, although the lock-up is electrical.
It sounds like it the sending unit inside the trans. I saw a post not too long ago with the similiar symptoms. The post has some photos as well. the tranny pan was dropped and the unit had two wires, one had just slipped off. A quick and easy fix. I will search the posts and let you know.

Thanks, I'll mention it to the tranny guys today. Hopefully its as easy as that. I seem to remember one of them mentioning something about the sending unit with this issue before.
