Suggestions for Catalytic Converter
I am considering putting cats back on my car....
A. I am guessing I will get smog tested sooner or later.
B. Want to take a little sound edge off of my 3" B&B exhaust.
C. Nasty smell of the exhaust with cats
I am looking for first hand experiences with catalytic converters! Need hard knowledge! I really want to make this cost effective (Cheap as possible) but on the other hand I want a product that is effective and long lasting.

yea, Magnaflow makes Carsound cats. I have heard good things.
Same with Random Tech.
Get cats that are ODBII compliant. These meet the same standards that OEM cats meet. So they have to last more than 25k miles.

I have headers, NO CATS and duals with the Magnaflow muffs. It sounds ok BUT it is TOO loud for me (guess im getting old).
My car will be at the muffler shop today or tomorrow and they are putting the Flowmaster spun converters on it. I will make a sound clip of it after they are on and let you know if it gets rid of the groan driving down the road.

Since being "cost effective" is important to you, I recommend looking in the Summit catalog. They have direct replacement types, (not universal fits) at decent prices.

I got my Carsound 3" bullet cats off eBay for about $60 each. I'm using them with Exotic Muscle longtubes and a Corsa exhaust. I just put them on for pretty much the same reason as you. I'm very happy with them. They quieted the car down, but not too quiet. Also helps keep the exhaust from smelling like crap.

Unless you just WANT to keep your cat for some reason just take it off (or leave it off), gut it out and put it back on.
That way if sometime later down the road they do emissions testing it will be in place-for show.
And YES you can pass most state emissions test without a cat converter in place if your car is tuned up and running right!
There are other members/threads/posts that back this fact up if you search.
Take it off, get a piece of pipe (or tire tool, or whatever) and a hammer and just gut it out!
Just break up all the stuff inside and put in a plastic bag to dispose of. I'd use gloves and not touch the chunks or breath in the dust.
Save your cat money for beer or other parts!

I just got the car back and WOW what a difference. It is ALOT quieter in the car. It still has a good rumble to it BUT it took all the crackle out of it. It is also alot quieter inside the car. It still groans on tip in but goes away when cruising.
Sound clip coming soon!
