My mechanic says my compressor won't come on because the outside temp sensor is reading 32 when it is really in the 90's here. He's made some calls and cannot find the sensor location...Where is it? Or how can he jump it?
Also, I saw on an earlier post that I can reset the computer A/C commands by removing some fuses...Could this be the problem?
He's got the car and I am planning a 7 hour trip to a Music Fest in Chatt. tomorrow.. Please help...Thanks in advance..
Since he doesn't know, make sure he's not charging you for the work. It should be on the front of the radiator shroud and usually you have to lay on your back and look up to see it. It's a thermistor, meaning the reference voltage drops as the resistance in the sensor decreases with heat. Grounding the harness will have the opposite effect and max out the signal; ie, max the temp. Unfortunately, that's probably going to set a code too and kill the system The only shortcut would probably be to put some sort of resistor in the circuit, but I don't have the values. Disconnecting and reconnecting the battery will clear memory and let it start over, but if the sensor is open - and -32 usually means that it is - all that might need to be done is to plug it back in. Hopefully your mechanic will find it and do that.
