Default Torque Converter Lock-Up Wiring

1996 LT1 4L60E

I'd like to be able to control my torque converter's lock-up feature manually by using a toggle switch mounted on the console.

So I'm wondering if anyone's done it before and can tell me which wires to use to wire it that way.

I know the 700R4 can be done that way and I saw the switches to do it in one of the mags. I was hoping to skip that cost and wire it myself.

Thanks for any help.

My info shows lockup control to ground back at ECM.

Hot wire goes to one of the switches on the brake pedal then to TCC then return to ECM.
If you were to duplicate the brake switch somewhere would have control as desired.
I have pnk/ blk and red as the wires on the TCC brake switch.May be different for other years
The other set of wires/switch are for the stop lamps.

NB Hitting the brake disengages the TCC if activated

I have this wired up in my car. (95impSS with 4L60E). It works well but you will cause a lit MIL.

I'm not at home and I don't have the HELMS with me but it is as simple as adding one wire tapped into the TCC ground wire going to the PCM and running that new ground wire to your dash switch and then to ground.

I can get you the color and pin location of that wire in a few hours if you don't have a Helms manual.

Depends what you want to control.

Method above lets you turn it on but not turn it off if the ECM has it on.( still to ground through the ECM)

Switching the supply (or earth back to ECM) lets you turn if off when the ECM has it on , but not on if the ECM has it off.

That is true.

What you can do though to make the ground (earth) switch be the full time on-off control is to program your PCM to never lock the TCC.

I should have been more specific in my question.

What I want is to be able to turn OFF the lock-up feature when the trans is in DRIVE AND THE ECM IS COMMANDING THE CONVERTER TO LOCK-UP.

I'd also like that capability for OD. So, basically, I want to take control of the converter lock-up feature; take it away from the ECM.

I really appreciate all the responses.

BTW, last year I bought the two volume FSM but somehow lost the one which has all the engine and trans information.

Guess it's time I break down and buy another one.
