Default Re-wiring question...

I have an '89 C-4 that is strictly a track car. It has an Lt-1 in it controlled by a Holley Commander. I would like to keep the stock instrument panel, but un-complicate the wiring on the car as much as possible.

How can I re-wire the starter solenoid using just a push button to start the car. Do I need to run this through the Holly Commander module, or can I run it straight to the starter solenoid.

Thanks!

Do you want to eliminate the key all together?

Absolutely, I don't need or want the key or the steering wheel lock. I would like to go down to the most basic of wiring requirements.

Engine start through a separate switch, all engine instruments, and the Holley Commander engine management system + brake lights are all that I need.

Thanks!

It's a piece of cake.

Get one of those switches with an ignition toggle and a start button.

Wire the ignition switch to battery (obviously) and out to the fuse blocks that are powered up with ignition power. There are two on the driver's side right by the battery on my '93. If your C4 is older I'm not sure where but sounds like you're smart enough to figure it out.

Run the starter solenoid wire directly from battery, through the push button, and to the starter. Be sure to fuse it with whatever size is in there currently. The starter should have seperate power and ground as normal. If you still have the column, you can take the wires directly from there. The starter solenoid wire should be purple. There might be a pink ignition wire in there as well, you can run that to the ignition switch.

This is a nice set up because it allows you to crank the motor with ignition off to test things or prime the oil pump without fear of the motor starting.

Here's mine:

BTW, what's this Holley commander? Is this a stand alone EFI or is your LT1 converted to carb'd?

How much is the system? I've been looking for something stand-alone but everything seems to be in the $2000 range.

Holly Commander 950; Total Engine Management System. Was installed when I bought the car which has an LT-1 swap motor with EFI/No Carb. Looks like it's a stand alone system.
