Default engine spec plate on cup holder door??

Hello, want to 1st say, great website!!!So far being new to the corvette world, this site has helped me much.

Now,just traded my 93 gsxr 1100w for a 85 corvette,very nice monster,but needs a little tlc.Seeing iam a ford guy,own 2 mustangs,this is all new to me,but pretty much the same.

Question i have is the spec plate on the cup holder door, why does my 85 have one? With some reserch, mostly pics i dont see any other 85's with that spec plate. Also the hp on mine says 250 and the compression shows 10:1,but other plates show 230 hp and 9:5:1 compresssion.

It looks orignal, unless somebody customed the new specs to it,but i cant tell. The vette runs well, has all the small mods and very surprized at the performance of the vette.I have tons of other questions, but this spec plate thing is bugging me.

thanks

Congrats and welcome!

If you press the store button at the top and goto C4 interior accessories, some plates are sold there. Here is a link to:

That plate is aftermarket. They used the plate for a later year--stock '85 was 9-1 cr at 230 hp.

The spec plare that you are refering to is not a stock item. Mid America sells them for all engine models of C-4. A previous owner put it on the cup holder door.
And welcome!!

It is an aftermarket plate for a later year. They changed a few things halfway through the '86 model year including aluminum heads and it freed up some more hp.

It was actually '88 before 250 was claimed, or 245 depending on who you ask. My '95 has one of these too, which is totally inaccurate now as to CID, HP and torque. But that's ok, let them think what they will. It's a stroker now.

Oh ok,yea i see that in the store.I was confused by that plate, thanks for the answers to my question.

Yes the name in my avatar is what friends call me in real life,i will always be a mustang man,but with a corvette twist.I once was helping myself and others to beat down gm crap, now iam working on a gm product myself, nice car overall, but i refer to my corvette as "a corvette" not a "gm".

Hey also found that my fuel psi is really high, vacumm off its at 55psi,vacumm on it drops to 45psi,seems a bit high??

Also dont know why,but i changed the valve cover came to find stock rockers and roller rockers mixed on the heads??I think it has roller tip rockers on the intake side and stock rockers on the exhaust side, kinda weird,ol skol race trick?

But car runs good, will post pics soon.thanks for the help, great place to be!!

Hell yea to that!!Let them think thats what shes got under the hood, come winter my 250hp motor will be pulled and hello 383!!Unsure of the heads, might just do a jegs or summit long block, unsure.

I get from my gm buddies, you can build that 350 better and less money then buying a new long block. But i figure its one shot, out with the ol,in with the new.A little spray and go lookin for trouble,gm or ford, but mostly rice.

Don't worry about it :-) I drive an 02 GT convertible to work everyday. Vette is for nice weekends only. I personally consider myself a car enthusiast and love them all. Don't tell anyone but I even envy some imports. Something about a high HP 4 banger that intrigues me.

To answer your rockers question. I've seen several people put higher ratio rockers on the intake side (normally 1.6). Every now and then you will see someone buy a set of rockers and sell half in our for sale section.

Welcome to the club!

Figured that, but never heard of that evr being done. Most people just do one shot deal on the rockers. But thanks for the info, now i dont think some retard couldnt afford a whole set for ol girl!!But can i ask, what is the point in that, wouldnt it be better to have all roller tip. Also the former owner was told the vette has a aftermarket comp cam and the roller rockers are comp cam aswell.

Default rockers

welcome. you will find that you will soon be known as corvette mike.

Rockers...
I was told that if you change the intakes and the exhaust to 1.6, you will kill some of your low speed torque. Some guys use the roller rockers to give them a dual pattern cam if they are on the intakes only.
The lift is about .3 difference. the 1.6 actually reprofiles the cam since at any given point on the lobe circle

the spec plate was one of my very first interior mods. I just recently removed it after seeing how lame it was after all these years... especially when I dont have a 350 anymore, have about 100 HP more than the plate says and it just looks downright ugly. Times and tastes sure change.
