Default Stale gas-Affect smog test?

Full tank of 1-1/2 yr old gas in the Z. Going in for state test only smog tomorrow . No time to burn it up...

Opinions?

Opinions?

IMHO add a pint of denatured alcohol (not rubbing).

It will help some..... Especially the hydrocarbon count.

Also get that baby hot!

Ron, wsup that means u r NOT driving that car, why dont u drive atleast 40-50 miles before jump in Emmission centre, that way u can atleast 2-3 galons of fresh fuel plus alcohol as jrifle said. Let us know what it comes out.

You need to get rid of as much of that gas as possible. The oxygenated fuels don't last much over 6 months I fight this all the time with my Z's. Will it pass with it? Maybe. Maybe is not a answer I like when it comes to emisions (failures go on Carfax here).

Yes it will increase emissions, hard to say but I'm guessing about 5%. Mixing in fresh gas will help, and drive it around for about 30 minutes prior to testing to get the cat hot.

Finally got it on the road today, but everything was closed. Idled it for a LONG time (replaced most cooling system componenets, had to check for leaks) then drove it for about a half hour or so, ran fine. Stunk a little during the first minute or so but seems fine overall. Below a half tank now....

Things seemed to have worked in your favor, now you've got the rest of today to burn it up.

Enjoy the ride!

Temporarily running on E85 @ the smog center should work since it burns cleaner.

That's good news it ran ok... I've read lots of wives tales about old gasoline. I've got nearly a full tank of Chevron 92 that has been sitting in the tank for nearly 2 years. I really do not want to have to buy a bunch of gas cans and burn that crap for the next 5 years in my lawn mower...

It's not an old wives tale. You might want to look at that gas, it'll be yellow and stink. Good luck with the fuel pump.

That's the thing- I have a new pump that I'd rather not ruin running crap gas though. The problem is dealing with 16+ gallons of bad gas. If it'll burn, I'd rather do that.

Passed with flying colors. Aded some premium and some techroline cleaner to the tank afterwards and made the car ping a lot. Go figure

Hold the phone! One of our most frequent posters has not driven his Z for 1 and 1/2 years? What's going on? Maybe you should buy a Yugo.

You lost interest because you ugly step child (67elky) has been keeping you busy along with those late nights partying with the hot girls im seeing you with.

Glad to see it passed! What a relief 2 more years of no worrying and then at it again.
