Default lightweight flywheel

i had a fidanza lightweight flywheel installed along with a new gm clutch and pressure plate at a corvette shop in the new orleans area. the flywheel said it was pre-balanced but i said i didnt believe and he just stuck it on there anyway and now from 4k rpms up my shifter shakes violently. i also have lots of clutch chatter at idle and under 2k rpms especially with the a/c on. any help would be appreciated.

hm... the fidenza is NOT balanced. It's set to the base balance of the DMFW, not to the match balance your engine needs.

the easiest thing is if you have the old DMFW, remove the fidenza and get it match balanced.

otherwise... yuck.

looks like ill be getting my flywheel balanced for free

any machine shop can match the balances?

secondly, ive had this flywheel on for about 5 months now and ive ran it at the track and on the street every weekend. would this cause any damage to my engine? if so what kind of damage?

Damage is unlikely, but if you ran it a long time that way you might lose your rear main seal prematurely.

I'd look for a good shop to match balance it, but many machine shops are up to the task.

Lastly, the clutch chatter might not go away when you get it balanced. I've heard that switching from the DMFW to a single-mass causes the clutch chatter, even if it's properly balanced.

those flywheels come with 2 different weights, neither is bolted on. do you know if it was bolted on with/without a weight? one of the 2 weights is actually pretty close to balanced in LTx engine, btw.

that resultant vibration will be more damaging to a cast crank than a steel one. it's very difficult to quantify it, but i'd guess the extra stress it puts on a cast crank is more than 2X the equivalent miles.

No weights were in the box, just the flywheel.

You've run this for 5 months and now wondering if it is right/damaged your engine?

I would think oil pressure/bearing damage is another area of damage.

If it still runs then...
