Brian,
Welcome to the forum!
I have an 85 and I did the swap from auto to a Richmond 6-spd. It is alot of work, but doable. I will touch base with you later when I've got more time to write.

auto to richmond 6
I really don't want to buy another trans. I have a Richmond 6-speed with shifter and I am just needing to buy the bellhousing, flywheel, pedal, etc. to do this swap. I am looking for someone who has performed this swap before for info, pics. or whatever. Any help would be greatly appreciated!.....

funny.....that's me......I can't tell you exactly how it's done since I have the ZF which is all together different than the Richmond and I don't turn my own wrenches....what I can tell you.....make sure your FW is correct for a 2 piece rear main which is what you have.......86+ is a one piece rear main seal.....not sure how the hydaulic clutch system works on a Richmond???? Richmond retro fit is much less common.....can you contact the manufacturer and let them know what you want to put it into? In my case I also needed an '89 console since it was the only year with the digital dash and ZF to make it look factory....the shifter comes up in a different position in the console on an automatic vs. ZF.....I retrofitted a manual tunnel (or part of it in mine...looks totally factory) I had my PROM programmed for the manual too.....not sure if that was needed, but it works well.....there are quite a few things to modify......do a search, there is plenty of info out there on this topic....good luck.....

keisler is a vendor on here that offers a complete kit to swap to a 6-speed. I inquired about this only because I was interested in purchasing an older c4 (with an automatic) and switching it out for a 6-speed. Of course, long story short- it was relatively involved, and expensive ($4,000-ish) for the kit.
I would advise to possibly consider 5-speeds (cheaper). Or sell what you've got and hunt for a manual transmission equipped c4 (preferably a ZF car not an older 4-speed w/overdrive car)
