Default Maybe the flame is dying...

I pulleed the '87 out today and took it for quite a long drive. It still is every bit as potent as it has been in the past. No issues (except for a fairly low idle which will be corrected when the plug gap is returned to 0.032-0.034"). Actually, the car ran very well. I left some nice 3-400 foot black stripes down the boulevard as I just rolled into the boost at 2800. It still is fun, just in a very "crude, ***** in your face" kind of way.

It seems that I have been spending a lot of time with some Supra guys / gals (my 13 year old has no interest in Vettes and absolutely loves the MKIVs). I went to an ~200 car meet last Saturday at Racing Solutions (West side of Houston). I spent alot of time with Dusty Miller (owner Racing Solutions and MVP Motorsports - Dallas) and Peter Blok as well as a gent from my neck of the woods that has a 1400WHP Supra, (2) Vipers, 1 tubbed drag Viper and a street Supra that is very tame at 1080WHP and some other nice cars. It seems that when these guys graduate from Supras or Vettes or whatever, they move to the Ferrari 360 Modena. Anyways, I was shown quite a handfull of these cars and was able to get a couple of rides (stock 340WHP, and there are several TTs out there). These cars are just plain sweet.

I have been toying with the idea of buying something different this next year (didn't think I wanted to buy an '08 Vette), and my wife kind of wants something different (not another Vette, we are now down to 3, and even though I am about to have more garage space, she says "not another vette"). I didn't think there would be a car that came along that would make me say that I would really rather have that than another vette, but I think I have found that car.

Thoughts on the 360 Modena? Yellow with black interior, of course.

Funny that you mention that Aaron... I spent Saturday night looking at one of my friends neighbor's yellow an black 360's. He said that he likes the car but that it's too expensive to mess around in. He doesn't take it to the track and doesn't drive it super hard for fear of breaking something. To quote him, he said every time he breaks something it is 4 to 5 figures to fix it.

Great cars... just expensive to maintain.

360's are fun but seem rather slow after being in modified Vettes and Mustangs. Friend of mine just wrecked his 00 yellow/black f1 360 that already had a salvage title. Instead of putting it back together he bought a 05 Murcielago roadster orange/black from Lambo of Houston for 347 drive out. I can see what happened to his 360 if you want something to play with but don't want to mess with the value. Been out to RSI a few times. Nice cars and he is giving Hennessey a ride for his money too. LOL. Then you have Nick at Fast Track who has worked for both building twin turbo everythings too.

Hey, if your boy is in love with the supra's then perhaps its time to find a beat up one and have him help you work on it. Probably not something you'd let him drive when he turns 16 without turning the boost WAY down, but it would be a great father son build project.

be an expensive fuggin project.. you can't find a stock TT with a title for less than 30k , couple mods and were in the 50k-75k-100k+ range.

Parts a damn near ferrari expensive for them too, I know a guy with a 1200HP single turbo 97 that he has well over 120k into

Yes, I know that a MKIV is in my near future. I have already told my son that he will not get that car at 16, he needs to learn to drive in something far more realistic. What does he pick, a 3rd generation Supra with a JDM engine (I guess from a 4th gen). I think not!! I told him think along the lines of a Civic. When he wades it up, I am not out much, and you walk away.

As for the 360, Yellow with Black is what I am leaning towards. I want a clean one with fairly low miles. Something that I can personalize for me. At 340WHP stock, I have to think they are stepping to over 500WHP with the TT package.

As a side mote, they tossed the C6 vette on the dynojet 2 Sat nites ago for free. It produced a measely 373 WHP (and 371WHP on the 2nd pull), within a few percent of what it pulled at Conollys back in Sept '06. It desperately needs the TT treatment.

Thanks for the replies guys. I guess I have some thinking to do.
