My '89 (Auto Trans) has some issues idling. I have replaced the idle air control valve, and that helped. The problem is that it idles up and down from 600-900. When I turn the AC on, it usually levels it out. I'm thinking vacuum....but I don't know much in that area.
Also- when I put my cruise control on, it slowly drops the cruise speed on it's own.

Check the vacuum lines that run to the cruise control. Do you hear any hissing under the hood other than at the air filter...preferably when the idle drops?
Sounds like a vac leak. The ECM is trying to straighten it out by controlling the IAC for a stable idle...this is why it fluctuates.
I haven't heard any hissing or leaking noises, but i'm gonna be keeping my eye out. I've been checking the hoses by the cruise control area the most. It seems like the idle is always most messed up after I've driven the car a little while and come to a stop.
Just went threw that with my 85,disconnected the mass air, idle leveled out,no hunting idle.Reconnected same issue and hard to start when cold.
Try that, vette will either die out or run better,if it runs better, most likely the mass air or relay??
