Default Rotors off Ebay - Experiences ???

Hello,

I need a set of new brakes for my 89 Corvette. Already used the search option and all I found was alot of debate about slotted and drilled. I already ordered Hawk HPS pads, a New left rear caliper (frozen), and a new emergency brake cable.

I checked the prices on ebay, and found them to be very reasonable compared to autoparts store and dealer pricing. I do not care if they are slotted and drilled, slotted, or drilled, whatever.

Best bang for buck is what I am looking for. I just want to find out who has had good experiences with sellers online and their products. I want to make sure the rotors are not going to be warped out of the box.

Dan

You really don't want any compromise with your brakes. Watch what you get, (what country) not much performance difference with sloted, drilled, or cut. I have used some of the cheaper brands from the auto places and found that those made in the USA cost more but are far superior to finish and warping
Buyer Beware!!

I purchased a set of slotted 13" rotors from Hawks Racing and Hawk hps pads and they hook up real well.

The above was purchased over a year ago (18000 miles) on eBay.

Yea, those are the ones I was thinking about going with. Hawks Racing.

I agree slotted and drilled are probably worse because of the lack of surface area, and slottled only have performance benefits at extremely high speeds under very hard braking but aren't any better or worse on the street then standards.

How are those hawks racing rotors holding up against rust... thats another concern?

The center area on mine started to rust. This won't effect performance but if you have ZR1 rims it's pretty noticeable. I think I'm going to pull mine off soon and paint them.

The NAPA rotors are generally Raybestos. Also, the last time I was at NAPA, I was tolds that their rotors were guaranteed to be ready to go out ofthe box with no machining necessary. DO NOT make the assumption that most rotors are balanced and correctly machined out of the box. ESPECIALLY if they come in a simple white box with few markings (Chicom).

I was on the fence between these and the Hawk's racing rotors. I finally wound up going with the Hawks racing rotors because of the price difference. They have pretty much the same description. I also am only replacing the rear rotors; over the winter I will try and get some better quality rotors for the front when I do the C5 conversion. Ill repost after the rotors are installed.

.picked up (NEW) both front and rears about 5 weeks ago on e-bay made by raybestos....fronts cost me less then $5 and rears cost approx $15....total cost for both with shipping was approx $45-$50..........i went with standard rotors because i have talked to some shops that will not turn slotted or drilled rotors because it either screws up the machine or are susceptible to cracking....

Good question! I drive in the rain at least twice a week, and after one year, no rust to date.

Always check new rotors no matter what.

If you go NAPA or auto store replacements, they will usually have a cheapie and a "good" set. Dont skimp on rotors, youll regret it .
