Default Ignition problem, need help.

I have had this problem for some time, it went away for about a year, but now has returned! I think this may be causing the problems I am having with my PKE too, so would like to fix this first.

When I turn off the car, and remove the key, the radio stays on. I have to turn the key back like I am starting it, but with the clutch out, so it won't start, then turn off and remove key and radio turns off.

Does it need a new ignition switch/tumbler? Something else?
Do you think this could cause the PKE to act up, maybe thinking the key is still in the ignition?

thanks

Sounds like a bad/out of adjustment ignition switch, the key/tumbler is different, and is connected to the switch by a long rod.

This is a normal function. The radio is supposed to continue to get power until/unless the door is opened. I'm pretty sure it's mentioned in the owner's manual.

When I turn off my 92 the radio stays on also, at least until I open the door.

You can download the '95 manual from the link here: click

See page 2-18, Delayed Accessory Bus.

Now, one must wonder why the feature wasn't operating correctly for a year. I'm afraid that I can offer little help in that regard.

This is a normal function. The radio will go off when you open the door. I am sure you know this already and just didn't state it the right way.

Yes, I know, I have had the car for 11 years, come on guys. I mean when I take the key out, AND open the door the radio stays on. It will stay off untill I do what I stated. If I didn't have the door open, it would not cut off when I turn it again to get it to turn off.

Default Radio remains on and PKE malfunction

Have you tried 'messing' with the door ajar switch? If the car doesn't know the door has opened (via the door ajar switch), the radio will continue to play. And if the door ajar switch sticks (open or closed????), the PKE doesn't work correctly either.
Mine stuck and produced your symptoms. Jiggling the push button 'cured' the problem (it will surely return next week) and I couldn't tell that it was stuck by looking at it or feeling it.
Try it, it might work.
Good luck
PS When you find the true solution, please post so we can use it too.

I pushed the switch in a few times after you suggested on my previous post. It seemed to work ok, but not sure what I am supposed to be looking for exactly? So did you replace the switch? Is it one of those PIA GM only parts, or can I just get an aftermarket switch?

When I push the FOB button it sounds like the lock is straining to move but doesn't lock or unlock the drivers door unless I hold it down for several seconds, but works fine with the door switch to lock both.

So can I adjust the switch myself, if so how?
Or should I replace it? Is it a big PIA job to do?

Here is the weird thing, my ignition and PKE started working correctly this evening! Could it be from messing with the door?

see window/door thread
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1789353

I am sure this won't last long though, so I still want to fix the root cause.
