Default Rocker/spring/lifter questions

I've done some research, seems the Crane golds are just about the "best for the money" rockers, which are full rockers. Comp cams rockers are about the same price, or more.

Question is:

1. Do I need to replace the push rods, or can I re use the stock ones for a rocker swap.

2. Springs. Where can I find those $35 LT4 springs I heard about? All the spring sets in Summit are over $150......

Thanks.

I doubt Crane Gold are best for the money but everyone is entitled to an opinion. Scorpion is a good buy and carries a lifetime guarantee. I don't think Crane has a guarantee.
If you will buy narrow, self aligning, full 1.6 rockers you won't need new anything except new springs and keepers. The LT4 springs are availible through GMPP. Many recent threads.

Yes, you can reuse your pushrods if you get self-aligning rockers.

1-800-362-9494 Van Devere Olds. Ask for Dallas in parts, he'll hook you up on the LT4 spring.

Cool, I'll order a set tomorrow. $100 CHEAPER than the Cranes. I just didn't know about them. The last motor I built was 10 years ago, an L48.

I'm kinda learning again....

Tell me, is it your opinion

I'll call tomorrow.

As far as using pushrods go, are you from they school that says the pushrods have to go back in to the same slot they came out of?

I hear the stock pushrods have some flex, is therer truth to this? If so, will aftermarket ones be any advantage?

Thanks.

My pushrods have been in an out several times, even with different lifters, and they haven't been put back in the same slots.

I may get some flack for this, but I'm still using the stock pushrods with a .622 lift camshaft. I look at the pushrods as my buffer. If my valvetrain gets in a bind, I want the pushrods to fail before a valve or piston.

BTW, I am re using my pushrods, anyone got a problem with that?

So here's the set up.

Scorpion full roller rockers, LT4 springs, original pushrods.

Seem OK to you guys. I am not trying to build an animal, just a faster C4.

Get the LT1 retainers I mentioned for $15.
Lightweight titanium; a nice little weight reduction on the valvetrain.

Prove it! I say Cranes are a good RR but overpriced and noisy. They aren't worth over $100 more IMO.

There is no way that LT1 or LT4 retainers are Titanium. The LT4 retainers were called lightweight compared to the LT1's version.

Crane Golds are good, Scorpions have worked equally well for us so I don't really see a difference other than price. Oh, and we're talking .715 lift with about 750lbs spring pressure on these; not just normal hot rod stuff. Both have worked, take your pick. As for your pushrods; you will be fine. We find the need to upgrade pushrods with spring pressure that will cause them to bend. Also, I don't think for that amount of money the retainers mentioned above are titanium.....that would be the deal of a lifetime though!

Agree

And be prepared to have the PCM tuned after you do your install of springs, rockers and keepers. I dont believe you need the "shims". Not to start this one up again - but - if your not running an LT-4 knock module after your install you WILL have timing being pulled out of the motor ...........

The shims are just the stock valve spring seats. If you do replace the shims/seats you'll also need a set of valve seals. The seals have to be pulled to change the seats.
