Can anyone help figure out what kind of shocks I should put on my 95 vette. All the garage shops around town recommended Monroe sensatracs, but I was wondering if there was a better choice for not a whole lot more money. Can anyone give me some advice.
I put on the Edelbrock Performer IAS shocks. They work GREAT!! You can read all about them on their website at http://www.edelbrock.com. I paid $119/ea. for the fronts and $109/ea. for the rears from Jeg's. You can reach Jeg's at 800-345-4545 or visit their website at http://www.jegs.com. If you search around you might be able to find them for a little less.
Edelbrock Performer IAS or Bilstein shocks would cost me with installation about 400 bucks. The Gabriel VST would only cost me 260 dollars. Do you think they are worth the extra money?
In my car I have this ASR option. Can I still get those shocks, the Bilsteins or the edelbrocks? Does the ASR thing mean I have to get some special shocks for it? The ASR light goes on every once in a while, I am sure it has something to do with my suspension.
ASR is traction control - nothing to do (directly) with suspension. You can put whatever shocks you desire on it w/o affecting ASR. You're thinking of the Adjustable suspension option which is different and controled buy a **** on the center console. ASR is the button up on the top left dash. When the 'ASR Active" light comes on it means you're breaking traction and the car is saving your butt.
I have a 91 Coupe with 47,000 miles on it. How long should the OEM shocks last? How would you rate the OEMs as compared to those already mentioned?
Is replacement easy enough for the average shade tree mechanic?
I put on the Monroe's, and they work great. It was real easy to do the front's, the rear's took a little grunting to break the bolts loose but were also easy.
