I have a pair of these rims for my car. They are aluminum. Now, I am trying to figure out which tire to use. I don't want to use the spare tires that came with them. M&H has a front runner that will fit best.
isn't the purpose of skinnies for weight reduction...and don't spares weigh 2 metric tons? or are these aluminum?
The guy i got my parts car from has a full set of weld's for sale too with slicks in back and skinnies up front he had bolted onto it previously
these are aluminum. Welds are awesome, but if you have J55's or C5 brakes you have to do some grinding to make them fit. these clear fine

The M&H tires on GTO spares worked great. Even with no front sway bar and drag radials in back, it feels as stable as cruising down the highway. Even at 110 mph.

I don't believe the stock spare has a lesser speed rating than normal; the reason they state to run at a slower speed is on the assumption that that you have only one spare fitted and 3 x 9" and 1 x 4" = not very good handling.

I read that the stock spare tire was probably ok, too, and a lot of people use them. I was worried about passing tech at the track with tires that said - temporary use only.

I assume those M&Hs are Bias Ply? Does anyone make a speed capable radial that will fit the 17x4 wheels?

Yes. They are bias ply. I looked everywhere (on the net) and could only find a european pirelli radial in a 155/70/17.
I was worried about mixing and matching, but all the major tire manufacturer sites say it's ok to run bias ply on the front and radial on the back. They say not to set them up the opposite way.
