i remeber reading somewhere that there was a difference between the "lt-1" engine that went into the c4 vettes, and the "lt1" engine of the 4th gen camaros... does anyone know anything about this? the article said that the dash mattered...
You might be confused between the LT1 engines used in C4's, and the LT-1 used in the C3 (1970 - 1972).
F-body heads and shortblock are about the same (The significant difference is Y-body has 4 bolt mains) but the heads are identical. The B-body has Iron heads
LT-1, 300 HP early 70s Chevy 350. LT1 300 HP early 90s Chevy 350. They reused the LT1 name in the 90's because that was the first time sense the early 70s that they made 300 HP in a 350.
I had a '70 1/2 camaro with the LT-1, and the camaro version was 350 horse, and the corvette version was 360 horse.
both had 4 bolt main, 11:1 compression, pop-ups, same cam, fuelie heads. cast iron 041's I think. I still got those heads on my 57 chevy truck.
2.02 intake, 1.6 exhaust.
The '70 Lt-1 was the last year of the high compression engines in all the big three auto makers. '71 implemented stricter smog laws, and the 350's went downhill until 1985.
throttle body injection restored some ponies, but smog laws still won out.
Pretty sure it was 360 and 370,. not that it matters....What a great motor, can only imagine what a good set of heads would have done for it way back when.
nothing like the clatter of a solid flat tappet motor running down the street. Even has its own sound inside the car, love it.
