'96 hood cable adjustment
Hi Folks:
Is there a way to easily adjust the hood cable on my '96CE? I noticed when I open the hood, there is a slight stagger: the driver's side opens before or quicker than the passenger side. And sometimes when I shut the hood, the passenger's side does not lock. I have to go over and press it down with my hand. I have lubed the pins. I tried adjusting the quarter panel on the passenger's side (moved in inward a bit). I noticed a paint scraping on the under side of the hood (the edge of the hood the sits down on the top of the quarter panel - some of the under side black paint is scraped off on the very edge of the hood). I think if I could tighten the passenger's side cable a bit to get them to pull in unison that might help.
Thanks,
Trebor

Sounds pretty normal. The kick panel should be adjusted to the door. If the hood is coming down to far, raise the adj. (lengthen the latch bolt and the rubber stop (there should be slight motion of the hood when it's latched). Sometimes the front hinges will wear or be slightly out of adjustment causing the hood to flex slightly )actually, you'll find this with alot of hoods). You can adj the cables to open alittle more quicker, but it's really hard to get them to unlatch at exactly the same time, due to flex in the system.

Don't forget, the hood cables stretch (by design) over time, too. Earlier C4 models have an adjustment nut at the end of each cable mount to take up slack.
I don't think the 96 models have this.

Thanks ZR1fred:
I think I will actually remove the kick panel then close the hood. Then if I pull on the hood release and there is still a stagger in the opening, I'll know the hood is not binding with the kick panel (in other words, the kick panel is misaligned).
