I have an '89 auto, L98. Currently 1.6RR's, LT headers and duals, shift kit, Zex 150 shot, and pcmforless tune. I plan on gear change, 2800 stall converter, and LT1 conversion intake. Long term plan is forged 383 with moderate cam and comression, still tame for the street. I'm staying with the D36 till it breaks. My question is........should I go with 3.54's or 3.07's. I know with the LT1 intake the 3.54's will be better in the 1/4 mi, which is what I like, but are they much more succeptible to breakage than the 3.07's? I am willing to give up a little ET and speed if the 3.07's are alot more durable, but if I am giving up alot and the 3.54's aren't much weaker than the 3.54's are for me. How much slower do you think the 3.07's will be than the 3.54's with my combination, on the stock bottom end and cam, and on my future 383? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If we knew trap speeds, RPM at shift points, and MPH with the new setup you will be running, it could be computed. However, my crystal ball is broken.
You would need to supply your own basic assumptions for the mods you plan at each level. Otherwise estimates would be wild guesses.
My crystal ball is broken too, which is why I ask you guys. Your guesses are always better than mine. I'm pretttymuch sure the 3.54's will be better for me with the LT1 conversion intake. I am wondering if the 3.54's are more prone to breakage than the 3.07's. Is it the gears that usually break, or the shafts, or the spindles? Will I be a little more durable with 3.07's? Or a lot more durable? I knew it was a shot in the dark for someone to guesstimate if I would be giving up .1, .2, or .7 in a quarter mile with 3.07's instead of 3.54's with an LT1 intake and all. By searching and looking at Central Coaster's timeslip 11 page thread it appears the 3.54's will be ok, but was looking for opinions on my setup.
BTW, thanks CC for keeping that thread updated with all the timeslips and updates and all. That thread is a wealth of knowledge, being able to see what combinations people are running and how it is working for them.
