Doug, where is one of those 76 stations selling 100 out here? I have half a tank of reeely old gas I need to boost up a bit, dont trust the gas gauge below the halfway mark. .
Purchased 100 octane in California (Pasadena Union76) and in Arizona at a Mobil station, with out a doubt noticed immediate results. More power and appeared the response improved. I put a full tank just prior to my scheduled California Emissions Test, burnt off half of that and passed the test with flying colors(probably would have passed regardless). One station in Torrance stated he had never seen a Corvette with readings this good.
Now I really do not purchase it as much, although once every three month I will put 10 gallons in the car.
My .02 worth
Before there was a Union 76 they were Pure Gas Stations
If you take a car that has an engine with a compression ration of 8:1 then you would normally use regular grade fuel with a low octane amount. If you were to suddenly go with a higher octane fuel then you're not going to notice any difference in the performance unless it's psychological. Octane only keeps the fuel from spontaneously combusting under large amounts of pressure (ie. a high compression engine).
So, if you do use a higher octane fuel and honestly feel a difference it's because you've been using the wrong fuel for your engine's compression ratio. You're not adding horsepower or getting a better throttle response, you're merely letting the engine run how it was designed to by using the correct octane levels.
I found an updated printable rebate coupon.
Chevron PurEscape - $5.99
Purchase Chevron PurEscape Performance Optimizer and receive $5.99 back by mail. Offer valid 8/1/07 through 8/31/07.
Limit 2 per customer. http://www.oreillyauto.com/EW3/GetUp...whatsNew14.pdf
Don't know if the rebate is specific to purchasing only at O'Reilly auto parts or not.
increased octane ratings don't take energy out of the fuel, it raises the temp at which self ignition takes place due to higher compression, and hot spots in the combustion chamber.

Hey Ron--the 76 station is located on Ventura Boulevard just a block west of White Oak on the north side of the street. I was just there but forgot to see if they still had the 100 octane. It is not in one of the standard pumps so you have to ask the guy to put it in for you.

Ill swing by there today to boost up some of this old gas. Thanks!
