I have not used the Vortec head but there is an article in the current issued of Chevy High Performance that rates the Vortec head #1 based on performance and cost even though it requires the Vortec intake manifold.
In addition, the issue has another article documenting the flow improvement when doing a three angle valve job. Very interesting reading.

I think http://www.tpis.com now makes a mini-ram that fits the Vortec heads. I think they call it the mini-ram3.

I have done this on a L98.There is a thread here in the C4 section.No doubt the Iron Vortech's are a nice head especially when ported but the decks are so thin the cooling systems on the cars they are run in are going to have to be up to snuff.Some will say that they are used on trucks but the trucks do not make 400 HP creating more heat.I have a little over 700.00 bucks in a pair of Iron Vortech's after screw in studs,spring upgrade,cutting the guide bosses down and still just have 1.5 exhaust valves .If I were to do it over with a Scoggin-Dickey Manifold"and I won't" I would run the new Edelbrock Etech 200 Aluminum Heads.Here are the flow figures.Compare them to The AFR's.I hope this helps.
