No reverse lights, Is there a switch in the console?
I notice tonight that my rear side marker lights don't work, checked the bulbs, ok, then I got to thinking about it and checked the reverse lights and sure enough I don't have those either. Again the bulb is fine, no blown fuses. In a shop manual for an 85 it says there is a switch on the automatics that sends power to lights when it's in gear. Where is this switch? On the trans or the shifter. My car is an 86 coupe with an automatic. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,

My alldata.com account says that the 700R4 has a Transmission Position Switch on it. It is a Dark Blue wire going in, and a Light Green wire coming out which eventually goes into a Green wire to the backup lamp circuit.
I think this is the part, but you'll want to double check.

Park/Neutral Safety switch sends the signal to the backup lights. It's inside of the console and the wires to the backup lights are as previously described.

Does this same light swith power the side marker lights in the rear. My red ones come on with the park lights but I can't get the clear ones to come on?

My back up lights don't work either...I know it's not bulbs, probably a bad or misadjusted switch... They did light up once the other day though  I'm not sure what's up w/ that...

I had the same problem(automatic, 87). Removed shifter ****, console trim, and then adjusted switch(two nuts). I adjusted the switch until the side/rear clear lights came on when I shifted to reverse. Also make sure car the will only start in P/N after.
