I have a 89 with 29,000 miles. I only drive it about 1000 miles a year just for fun. The car has new plugs & wies oil& filter just changed new O2 senser. The car has no codes and doesn't miss and the Damn thing still won't pass. The gas in the tank has been in their since March could that do it. I have already spent $60 on two tries. Here is the readings
15 MPH HCppm limit 48 mine232 CO% limit 0.19 mine 0.31
25 MPH everything was under limits. What do I try next
The old gas shouldn't be a problem. HCs are unburned, raw fuel. They can come from dirty oil (I know, I read), a dirty air filter, a partially fouled plug, a bad plug wire, etc. They can also come from too rich a fuel mixture (it doesn't all get burned) or even a too lean fuel mixture (lean misfire).
The high CO indicates too rich a mixture. Along with any of the maintenance items you may be doing, I would double check that the timing is on the button. Good luck and...
Are you driving the Corvette enough to get it REALLY warm before the emissions check? Like 15-20 miles at highway speed.
Your values could result from a 'cold' engine. And keep it running unless they tell you to shut it off.
Good luck.
