All this talk reminds me of Red Victor 1 - runs 2200BHP and is fully street legal. 572 BBC.

0-60mph = 1sec
0-150mph = 5.0secs
0-189mph = 7.6secs
standing 1/4 = 7.68 @189mph so far.......
top speed = 200mph+ or how long i could keep the bodywork from flying off, whichever was faster...

Street Eliminator ET and speed record holder 7.87 @ 188.53mph so far....

World pump gas ET and speed record holder. 7.68 @189mph so far.....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0HGE6qfBvvw

Think he's run faster times since then! Been extremely reliable so far as well, just had a few bearing changes for safety & oil changes

Rod Saboury's mid year 'vette ran in the high 6's on 93 octane pump gas at the Shakedown @ Etown this year. Popping and missing.

Andy's cars is extremely impressive, but not the pump gas record holder anymore. It's going to be interesting to see how he runs without the rules restrictions from the series that he races at home.

Nelson can build you a 2000+bhp SBC . for the normal motors (if you can call upto 1600bhp normal) he is using twin T72 for the 2000+ motors i think i heard they are using T88s!

thanks Chris.

nelson turns out 1500 hp motors like they're 450 hp strokers from 10 years ago. I bought my blower off shopview who had his car done by nelson. It made 717 rwhp or so and that wasn't enough so they pulled off the ysi and went twin turbo. When I was picking up the blower I saw more 1000hp+ cars in one place then I've ever seen at a shop. He has his cam grinds(turbo grinds) and combo's down. He was a really cool guy when I met him.

For big hp, you're probably going to need something that flows more toward 350 cfm+ and run a big compressor.

I'd love to try that type of racing at el mirage in 2008.

the problem is making that kind of hp for minutes instead of secounts........go to the dyno.....lay a brick on the gas pedal and then get out a have a beer............not many forced inductions guys out on the salt for very long.

i guess that a true test of just how strong an engine is, and also why there is only 1 production car making over 1000bhp!

i think nelson makes very strong engines. as you say if you build alot of them then you lurn what bits to use and what not. i mena the simple fact that people drop his engines into cars and then drive them 1000's of miles and race every weekend shows that they are strong.

wonder if they could offer a 10year/100,000mile warrenty on it?? lol

Chris.

It's merely aa function of the parts you put in it. Duty cuyle my friends, duty cycle.
If there is sufficient coolant jacket to remove that component of the heat input (remember 1/3 is exhaust, 1/3 into the cooling jacket,1/3 into moves you down the road) ,proper tune and proper octane the motor will last.
Billet rods, piston jet oil cooling, drysump, billet crankshaft with the additional counterweights in the middle to reduce bearing load, all o fhtese things become nessicary when you try to break the 30% dutycycle mark.
I would also swaintech coat everything that sees fire.

Every object you touch has a number of cycle vs stress curve to it.

more stress= less cycles the component will last for.

Something I wish I got the chance to do while I was out there.

How long is the course?

I don't really know too much about it. I'd really like to do the standing mile but I don't know of anywhere closer than texas to do it. My car already has a lot of the safety equipment I'd need for a not too crazy speed class so I was thinking one day, why not?!

It's a 1.3 mile course. Here's a website with some of the results from last year.

LOL, you aren't very far from the truth. I know a guy that does testing on big block marine engines. When those are on the dyno they turn them up to redline and leave for lunch. Check them 2 hours later and make sure they are still running.

Boats are a much different application, but the same basic engine stuff applies.

on the salt flats the short course is 3 miles the long is 7 miles........most cars are close too there top speed by the 2 miles...then the grunt for the extra mph.....traction is an issue so with the really big hp guys maybe the 3 mile.........which is also were they spin because wind resistence is equal to traction.............talked to a c-3 guy with 180 lbs of bar bells bolted to the floor in the rear for traction.

Aluminum block is a must good heads like some 15* or 18*'s, and a bulletproof rotating assembly. I don't know a 383 can support that kinda power #'s. I have seen some 400 inch stuff make that kinda #.

methanol/ethanol alky can be nice too. dratically reduces your need for a cooling jacket.
