Default TPIS 700-701 solid cam valve lash

What are others out there that are using the TPIS solid cam running for valve lash? I have my short block built and I'm installing the valvetrain now. I think I heard .017" but I want to be sure.

Cork?
Jim?
Ralph?

Remember, the COLD adjustment is only a starting point.

On mechanical cams, the lash has to be re-adjusted once everything is HOT.

It has to be adjusted hot or should be adjusted hot? Is this just for max performance? What should be the lash hot?

Yes, mechanical cams have to have the lash wet when the engine has reached normal operating temperature, which we refer to as HOT.

The HOT lash setting will be on your cam card. If you don't have the card, you can probably find the HOT lash setting on the cam manf. website.

The reason is because of the expansion characteristics caused be the heat.

Back in my old days, I would set them hot the first time; PITA but necessary. Then you let it cool all the way down and check them to see what they are after they've cooled off. Then you know what you can set them at when cold. Don't be surprized if the IN and EX have different settings when cold, the EX runs hotter.

Your lash will change by 0.002"-0.003" from cold to hot on an iron block with aluminum heads. There really is no defined "cold lash" setting, but people learn what their "cold lash" setting by checking a correctly set "hot lash" cam while it is cold. Once the "cold lash" is known, they rarely check the cam lash hot. And if you have the proper valvetrain (rockers, studs, locks, or shaft rockers) the valvetrain on a SR engine will rarely if ever need adjustment.

BTW, it is a PITA to verify hot lash. And yes, I do run a large SR cam.
