Ok, Its time to add a 'a little more' to the ol' girl.. I was thinking of forgoing the cam/heads and dropping a Big Block in.. :> I heard you ca get all Alum. 502's... hmmmmm... its got me thinking.. What would have to be modifyed changed..etc..etc.. has anyone done this swap?!?! Any info?!?!
from what i've read you need to:
1.) relocate the steering rack 1 1/2"+ forward to clear the crank pulley
2.) trade out the heat/ a/c housing for a zr1 assembly for room on the passenger side
3.) custom headers as no one makes production for this combination
4.) watch/massage the steering clearance with the driverside head/header
there's probably mor but the consensus is build a large ci small block for the same money and less hassles.
having said that i know there are a few in existence, including a gm mule on display in bowling green at the museum
The one on display in BG is called the ZR-2 and I can tell you the install looks very good as best I can remember. If you want I can go up to the museum sometime and take some pictures for you.
street & performance has one in their website. a comp yellow roadster with a fuel injected biggie. pictures are from too great a distance to see construction details but it sure looks nice ...(and tight)
Do you know that you can get 468 cubic inches out of small block. This will require buying a new rocket block. :D
A Motown block will give you mid-to-upper 400-cubes easily as well. It is basically a "standard" Chevy small-block with a lot of beef added where it's needed. They are made by World Castings at http://www.worldcastings.com/
These are the same guys who produce the Merlin BB.
go to http://www.lingenfelter.com click on classifieds and look at the car beneath mine. It has a BIG BLOCK in it...NASTY!!! ;)
there's also a guy from maryland that has a bbc..it ran low 11's@136 on motor. Not too sure if the guy is on the forum or not. if i get more info...i'll provide it.
