Default Rev Limit for an LT4

What is the safe rev limit for an LT4 - 6400? What is the limiting part?

The rev limiter will keep you in a safe range for the motor. It should say in your owners manual also

Fuel shut off is at 6400. The stock LT4 power starts dropping off after 6000 rpm anyway. Its a whole different question for a modified engine with a bigger cam, exhaust, etc....

I think the question is: what valvetrain part prevents the motor from safely revving higher.

BTW my stock motor with intake, TB and no mufflers has a HP peak at 6100, so even a stock-internal motor can take advantage of the high rpm range. Just my .02 :)

Good point. I dyno'd mine last Saturday, I would have sworn I ran her all the way to the 6800 rpm redline. But looking at the dyno sheet, she shut off right at 6500 rpm, and the hp began to come down (ever so slightly) at 6000. Next time I run her, I'm lifting at 6000.

I was shifting at 6100 (shift light) I set it to 6000 now and dropped a bit in the 1/4 and ran my best not taking it over 6000.
