Should I buy the 6AL and just get the addons to do what the Digital 6 can, or just buy the Digital 6 and use it as is. One nice box with what I'll need.
I know it sounds like an open & shut question, but I thought I'd put the feeler out in case there have been issues with the Digi6. :)
I have had both in a race car and I love the digi6. It has a complete rev limiter right on the box. It's adjustable by the turn of a dial. Another great feature is that it has a built in timing retard for nitrous applications and for high compression engines it can retard the timing 20 degrees upon startup and when you get above 800 rpms it goes back to initial timing.
It might be a little over kill for a street car. I put my old 6al on my vette. My wiring harness came in today...its supposed to just plug in....we'll see. I have the part number for the harness if you decide to go with the 6al
I figure that I'm going to need timing retard anyways since nitrous is in the future after the N/A stuff gets done. So there is one addon that I would need. The double rev limiter would be nice for burnout & redline. I understand WHAT it does for the startup retarding, but how does this help the engine?
By retarding the timing on startup it takes a lot of stress off of your starter...once again on a high compression engine. My high torque starter will barely crank over my 13:1 motor without the "startup retard" set. With it set to retard it by 20 it rolls right over. My batteries even stay charged longer.
If nitrous is in your future I highly reccomend the digital 6. WHen I ran the 6AL I had the adapter and I always had to remember to back the timing off before I turned the juice on. Its a lot easier to just flip the switch and mash the throttle!
Brian,
Digital 6 hands down, for the money it does everything you could possibly want not to mention surge protection and easier mounting since everything is in one box. I have one and its great.
You a distributor? Any specials going on? :) Preferably one that has the digi6, harness, and vibration mounts.
Specials?!?! Me?!?! :)
If we can get a few people together, I might be able to squeeze a little. Let's see what kind of interest we have. I have one person that is asking about them at this point. Then you. How about some others?!?!
Let me know,

Let me know,
I might be interested. There definitely is one in my future, just was going to wait until spring. let me know.
How high of a compression ratio can you have and reliably shoot 150 shots of NOS? Or does the compression ratio really not matter?
I honestly don't know, but this lil' baby will automatically retard the timing 6* (2* per 50hp) as soon as your solenoid kicks in and sends a 12v signal to it.
I've been running the reglar 6AL for years with Nitrous with no problem. Would I gain anything performance-wise with the digital? I know Scorp said the same harness could be used, any other setup concerns? I noticed someone say that the digital retards the timing when the NOS solenoid kicks ine - is there any hookup or setup regarding that? Thanks!

As for the NOS setup... you run a 12V line to the MSD box, and when it gets power in from that line, automatically retards it by the amount you dialed in on the box. So assuming your nitrous solenoid also uses a 12V line to power itself, you can wire this in parallel to the MSD box input and they will kick in together. :)
Alright Chris count me in, I'm gonna buy one from you one way or the other, so if I get it cheaper that's great, if I don't, I don't. Considering I won't need a window switch or another rev limiter the price pretty much equals out. :D
I'm never going to have any money am I? I want a digital 6, my decision was between that and the headers. I can't say for sure until I could have a ball-park price. With Christmas coming up and all I really need to wait until spring, but if the price was right......
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
