Is anyone using synthetic auto tranny fluid? What brand and spec?
With my `92 LT-1 Coupe going down soon for the winter, I'm establishing my "Spring thaw" maintenance triage. Among them is changing out the auto tranny fluid and installing a new filter and gasket.
My question is, what brand of synthetic automatic transmission fluid are you guys using and what are the GM specs? Dexron II or III? I've seen the Valvoline Syntec stuff. Is it any good, or should I go the Mobil 1 Route?
Thanks! ;)

I had a friend turn me on to Red-Line synthetic. Now I'm running Red-Line as all my fluids, tranny, engine and also the rearend. Seems to work out pretty good.

I use Mobil 1 synthetic ATF, it will provide excellent gear shifting and protection under severe driving modes. Modil 1 synthetic ATF is a superior Dexron III qualified product which meets or exceeds the requirements of the major car manufactures. I have used it in my 90 vette for two years now with no problems and the tranny fluid is still light red in color.

When I had my transmissiion rebuilt @ 150k I switched to Amsoil ATF and at 170k I did a fluid analysis and did not find fluid degradation. Amsoil is said to be able to be used up to three time longer than regular transmission fluids. So far so good.

Sounds like synth ATF is cheap protection I can't afford to be without. Thanks for the responses, guys! :flag

I used Amsoil after my first rebuild worked fine then I blow up my tranney and am running Mobil One now.
I think both are fine Mobil One was half the price I think it was over $100 to fill with Amsoil.
If you run your car hard I recommend it if not you could be wasting your money.
Also keep in mind if you don't do a rebuild and get a new converter your only changing about half your fluid I believe I put in about 12-13 quarts
