Default Hypertech III and LT-4

I now have a Hypertech III I got from a friend (settings are cleared, so it can accept a new VIN).

Before I let it loose on my LT-4, are there " ideal" settings for things like fan-on temps (both #1 and #2), etc.?

Anyone with experience with Hypertech III's on an LT-4, who can provide advice, would be most welcome.

Hi
I have a 96 LT4 and have used the HT III for 6 years. Durind the Hot summers I install the HT Power Tuning, so it turns on the Fans sooner. And in the winter time a go the the Custom Tune so I can have the fans on later so my Heater gets hotter air inside. Set the fans at 213/205 and see how hot you run in the summer. You want your oil temp to see 220 or so. Too cool for the oil is not what you want. You will see about a 6 HP gain over the GM LT4 Factory tune. HT use to have a Dyno chart for the 96 LT4 Vette and it showed the 6 HP (Big Deal) but the fans on or off as the weather changes is the main reason I got mine. See Ed Wright for a reprogram on a Dyno, best way to tune. You send your computer to him or PCMforless and they can get you close but on the Dyno is best HP gains. Hope this helps. Just follow the instructions it is easy.
Louis

Thanks, Louis. Very helpful info. One question: Did you mean set the fan #1 on-temp at 205 degrees, and fan#2 on-temp at 213 degrees? Can't tell, based on how you wrote the reply.

BTW, are you a member of the GSR...? Seems I've seen your name before.

Rick
If you have a 180 degree stat in the hot summer have fans on at 213 and off at 205. If you are still running hot in stop and go and you keep the radiator free of grass clippings, in the summer fans on 192 and off at 185. You can change to a 160 degree stat but this year I kept my 180 in and the settings at on 213 off 205 and A/C on the temp never went past 225 in heavy traffic. I do have a New Stock radiator and I keep it clean (blow out with air compressor). Watch your oil temp in the winter you Want the oil at 220 degrees.

Yes I am a member of GSR, LAB3 is my sign on some of the other forums. Hutch is a great guy, he will really try to help the LT4 guys with their problems.
Regards
Louis

Louis -- Thanks. This now makes perfect sense. I have a 180 degree (stock) stat...so this should work well. I'll let you know how things go after I hook-up the HT III, and adjust the settings.

The radiator (along with the rest of the car) is clean as a whistle. Only have 23K miles on the clock.

I love the GSR (became a member in March). I met Hutch, and a bunch of other members at Carlisle a few weeks ago. Great group. I'll look for you on the GSR Forum, and on the group listserve.

Best, Rick
