Default Micro switch in automatic shifter console?

Took the console cover off my 86 automatic to fix my reverse lights, turns out worn out switch. Anyway, there is a micro switch that contacts with the shifter after the lever goes to Drive. It has an orange and black wire going into it but the rest in under the console. Anybody know what this thing does? It doesn't effect the hatch, I've already tried that.
Learning more every day.

My '88 has a Blk/Lt Blu wire that goes from the OD Enable Sw to the ECM that signals when OD has been selected. Possibly that's the sw with different color code. My Orn/Blk wire goes from the Transmission Position Sw to the ECM to signal when P or N has been selected.
