So how does the engine run with the mods you've made? Especially with the Granny MAF?

I ask because Golan Engines states to use nothing but a stock MAF and I'm wondering why they take that position.

Thanks,

Jake

I'm looking to do a build up this winter.

I am looking at and still researching Patriot Cyl heads. Seem to be a good bang for the buck and can't find anything negitive about them, yet.

I am also looking at FI as a final finishing touch. I don't know what your LT1 would do, but with my L98 I should be about 9.5 which is happy for FI.

I had a conversation with Greg from Blowerworks, who comes highly reccomended. I went through my buildup with him. His advice was to build the motor to run the way you want it to run then add the FI. That the Vortex style blowers don't require special cams and such.

I think the ZZ4 cam is a little mild, I'm going for the Accel/LPE 219 cam. However, I am also putting on a Super Ram and I haven't heard you say anything about an intake. On the other hand, with that intake, there isn't much to do I guess.

Decisions, decisions.......

I can only think that a blower would put even more stress on that bottom end. Go with a proven combination. Many like to make a LT1 to LT4 upgrade; LT4 heads, LT4 intake and a GM Hot cam kit. There are several nice headers out there, including EM's ceramic coated long tubes or if you want to keep your OEM cats go with Jet Hot's Hooker Shorties that are ceramic coated. You might want to stay with the OEM exhaust for a while as it is a good flowing exhaust, but it is quiet. BTW, the LT4 upgrade will cost around $2500 for the parts and some supporting sponsor here on the forum offer that complete kit. You will need to update your ECM to get the most out of this upgrade. Do some homework.

Oh boy, I'm getting lots of great inputs on this board! Many Thanks! I personally feel that C4 Vette is a great sportscar, that's why I bought one. Well, it's also because I can't afford the C5's and C6's yet.

BTW, as far as FI goes, everything I have been able to figure out, I plan to throw about 8 pounds at the motor.

The bottom end should be fine at 8 pounds, on a L98. I believe your LT1 bottom end is actually stronger.

8 pounds should net about 50% more HP.

The risk you run is detonation, and an exploding piston. That would happen at high RPMs.

Use super gas, and don't advance the timing too much if you plan on winding it up.

Actually, I feel an improvement in power, a slight pressure on the gas, it speeds up to 0-15 mph.. jerking my head back. I don't know if i can attribute some of it to Granny MAF though

I agree that you should be doing your homework on your cylinder head choice. Heads are sooooooo critical to optimum performance there contribution can't be under-estimated.

It it were me, I'd be looking for POSITIVE feedback on folks who are actually running those heads. You have to be careful here. Many times folks (I use "folks" since there are ladies who might be offended if I used "guys") who have bought and installed those heads will -out of their committment to the product - only report positive results.

I've found that folks who have invested a couple of thousand dollars and work into buying and installing a set of heads only speak glowingly of them. Rarely do you see "These heads are pieces of sh**. I'm pulling them off as soon as I can and going with blah, blah, blah". That's human nature, so you have to weed that out of your decision making process.

That's where unbiased results come into play. Someone or some shop that has UNBIASEDLY evaluated those heads and reported on the pluses and minuses of them.

This may not be easy to do, but searching on the internet may direct you to sources of reliable information. Also, be sure to consider MORE than just flow numbers too.

Hope this helps.
