I was just give a set of 5 star oem C5 wheels off my dads car that only have 16k on them. They are perfect. My question is will they fit my car. 1990 Coupe. Are the offsets the same? If they will fit, what size of tires should I use. The diameter of the back standard C5 18 inch tires turns out to be exactly an inch larger the the 17 inch tires on my car, will that hurt performance due to the gear ration change? If anyone has these answer or has done this themselves the input would be very appreciated. Thanks!!!
What size are your current tires?
You can go to an online tire site (tirerack, discount tire, etc.) and use their tire calculators to come with the best size.
I would try to keep your overall diameter as close to stock as you can. That way it won't affect your speedometer.
Not sure what size tire you currently have on your car.
Assume 275/40 17 (approx. 25.66" D.)
275/35 18 = 25.58" D.
This tire is close enough, it wouldn't cause any noticeable speedometer errors.
I just found a spec saying that the rear C5 wheels are offset to +65mm. Standard offset for a 90' is +56mm. What impact would that have on the fit of the rear wheels. BTW I am running the stock size of 275/40 17 all the around currently. The reason I am putting new wheels on the car is two of my originals are bent, and one is getting a hairline crack in it, which sucks because I spenk several hours refinishing them.
