tomorrow night the oil pan goes back on my lt4, its a canton 7qt pan. i have a new felpro 1 piece gasket for it. what do you guys recommend, install the gasket dry or use some permatex with it.
any tips on keeping it from leaking. it had a very small drip from the rear before.
thanks
I was VERY carful to clean all mounting surfaces w/ prep-all (wax/grease remover for painting). Then I used a small amount of silicone at the edges of the front & back corners.
HUGE recommendation though, if this is a new canton pan. Put about a quart of diesel fuel in it & find all the freakin pin hole leaks in the weld seams. Fix those BEFORE you install the pan. Too many of us are cussing the damn drips. I hit my worst one w/ a small tig unit on the car but still have some seeping that just pisses me off.
You can BET I will be doing a full inspection & repair if it ever has to come off. Which is a bitch w/ headers & remote oil coolers etc.
