I can tell you from many personal experiences, a "no name" and a name brand cam will be significantly different even if the cam card shows the exact same specs. There are hundreds of other measurements that are not listed on the cam card. It may run similar, but I would bet the hot cam would run at least slightly better.

You'd be amazed at the research $$ that goes into the a cam that doesn't show up on the cam card.

I thought the Hotcam was a wimpy cam! Hell, why cheap out as much trouble as a cam is to install. You can get the real thing for around $200.

You are right.
I'm just checking around and doing my research and this was an inexpensive cam that showed up in a search on a popular auction site.
I'm well known as a tight aZZ when it comes to parting with my $$!!
I still really have no clue what cam to buy. I keep bouncing back and forth between just going with the tried and true Hotcam, or something a little different.
Hell, I can't even make up my mind who to do my headwork. I've now talked to four different shops with four different thoughts on how to proceed.

To make it more confusing, for a street-only car, I think the hot cam is a decent cam. That said, I like streetability over top end power so I prefer a milder cam. I drive my cars 99% of the time on the street, stoplight to stoplight, so I that's what I buy for. I have an S10 with a 305 and a milder cam then what you've listed and several other goodies mixed in and it will scoot very well. With the 2.59 rearend in my vette and the 3.42 in the S10 and stickier tires, I'd say the performance would be close even with a smaller engine.

What you want to do with your car will determine a good cam for it.

Yeh - I'm leaning more and more to going with the "whimpy" cam.
It seems to be doing a lot of people good things, and also seems to be a good for all around activities to boot.

One of the great early engine gurus said study your cam options, select the very smallest cam you think you can live with
.
.
.
.
then go one step milder.

The Hot Cam will give 95% of us far more grunt and power than we will ever use.
