Default new engine break in

Although I have found some information on engine break in procedure I seem to recall an article on engine break in that had a somewhat different approach to this and it seemed to make sence. It all revolved around piston ring seating. If anybody could recall the link, would be great. Thank you.

I think this is the site you might be thinking of!

I think this is the one you're talking about:

Interestingly, this is exactly what my builder told me to do on the engine I just had built. Basically start it up, get a base tune, and hit it with 3-10 dyno runs. Then change the oil, and run it for a weekend, change the oil again and that's that.

Of course, my new shortblock is sitting on the stand still so I haven't tried this approach.

If you do a search in the "engine mods" section of the forum, I recall seeing a pretty lengthy thread on the topic.

Hastings, the ring people used to say accelerate to 60 mph. Coast to stop. Do this 10 times. Change the oil. In my racing days this is what we did, always worked.

Thank you, just what I wanted. I am breaking in a new 500cc single Aprilia motorscooter and I feel the break in to be important.
