Default Motor rebuild/replacement research

I'm still not finished choosing how to fix my motor yet. But some of the other Forum members suggested Jaspers. After talking with a salesman there I think I have found the best offer yet. They want me to send my motor in and rebuild it for $2230.00. $2005.00 to rebuild and $225.00 for shipping from here in California to Jaspers in Indiania and back. This price also includes a 3 year 75,000 mile warrentee anywhere I want to take it and is tranferable to another buyer.
This sounds like a great deal to me because I get a almost new longblock out of this. Short blocks are in the $1500.00 range no matter where I've looked for them. The price that Jaspers is charging isn't that much more and has a longer warrentte than GM (50,000 miles).Dealers want $3200.00-3500.00 to rebuild my motor. Also all the numbers still match. Not that it's a collector's model yet.
I guess what the problem is,that Jaspers is located so far away from where I'm located and I've never heard of them other than from here on the Forum.
I have had great results from the Forum, so it must be that they are located half way across the country from me. I just like more than one reference.
Well anyway, any ideas or thoughts would be great.
Thanks!

If I were you I would try locally because lets say something happens and the motor gets fried, IM not saying that would happen but Im saying what if then you would have to ship it back and so on and so on you get the picture try locally first cause if something anything out of the ordinary occurs freight is not refunded to you the last time I checked anyway good luck on your quest but keep this in mind just trying to do my share of looking out! Its usually easier to settle complications face to face if questons need answers.

Thanks for lookingout for me C4396roadster! This is going to be one of my next questions that I'm going to ask them. I couldn't agree with you more. Dealing with people face to face ismore effective.
By the way, where did you get the 396 and what's the problems that you are having with it?

I got my 396 package fm tpis and went to a local machine shop and had them redo my l98 block the only problems I have really confronted is time for this project otherwise its pretty straight forward, I started with twisted wedge tfs and throughout have been having trouble setting these heads up and through numerous phone calls with tfs the tech helping me on this matter felt pity and I broke down and got a deal on a set of cnc 23 tfs heads which they sent me the wrong ones but its all good hopefully by this monday shell be at my door so Im hoping I will get this thing done before weeks out. If you got the dollars to dump I notice a SWEET deal in the for sale section on a 383 longblock I think hes in CA also :chevy

I'm thinking that for the 5 grand or so that he wants for the 383 I would rather sell my '89 and pick up a '92 or '93.
Thanks for looking out for me!
