Recent fuel pump questions
Well, thanks to Jake, I determined that my AFPR was not the problem. I change out my FP yesterday and thought that I might answer a couple of recently posted questions. 1) Orientation of the sock. Mine was original, and the sock points horizontally (wheel to wheel) and the longer end points towards the passengers side. 2) As far as how much or a warning a failing fuel pump will give you, it depends. Mine started out by a vibration through the floorboards when you accelerated quickly. Second, it took a halfdozen cranks to get it started it the morning. Third, it would sometimes fall on it's face when you punched it from a dead start. So, I got about a months warning that something was amiss. It may have been a clogged sock, or a shot pulsator, but I replace them all and now it feels like I gained about 50 hp.
