My 92 was running hot on a trip, 235degrees, which it never goes to that . I popped the hood and saw a plastic bag wrapped around the cooling fan motor. I assumed that this burned up the motor, it is the passenger side fan motor. So, I replaced the motor but it still does not work.
I swapped the relays and turned on the ac, and the drivers side came on. So I assume it is getting power and that the relay is good since the drivers side worked when I swapped relays.
I need to check power at the plug for the fan, I will do that tonight.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Shawn
Shawn, just to make it more clear, I just went out and looked at mine. The fuse box is on the inner fender well, directly below the ECM and beside the master cyl. There is a 30 and a 40 amp in there for the fans. Also there is another fuse box located behind the battery. Not sure what is in it. Good luck!!
Just remember, the fans are turned off by the ECM around 35 mph. So on your trip, assuming you were going faster than 35 mph, your fans should have been off, therefore, something else was causing the higher temps. How much of the radiator was covered by the plastic bag? Was there anything else covering the air intake to the condensor/radiator?

I don't have the shop manuals in front of me, but I think the '92 has fusible links instead of fuses.
If it does, the fusible links are connected to the "jump start" connector behind the battery.
The plastic bag didn't cover any of the radiator, it was wrapped around the fan blade base. That tells me that the fan was running when the bag was sucked into the engine compartment, but now with the bag removed and a new fan motor it still doesn't work. I am stumped, something happened when the bag was stuck in there.

Also, remember that the aux. fan does not come on till after 237 degrees. Jump connectors A & B on the aldc plug under your dash and see if the fans come on.
