I have asked this question before so please bear with me. My tach has quit working. From what I have been told the problem is probably the tach filter. I have identified the lead wires from the distributor that I believe is the tach wire. It goes down between the left rear cylinder and the firewall. but I cannot locate the tach filter. What does the filter look like? the part can be ordered and is inexpensive but I need to know hwere the filter is and what it looks like. Help. Be specific.
Incidentally, Gordon Killebrew says, most tach problems are associated with water entering the main bulkhead connector (the large one in the engine compartment) the tach connection is in the lower row of pins. Unfortunately the General never sealed the connection.
Checked to see if the site is still working...which it is, but I did notice it only stated up til 1989...don't know if there the same, but at least you can get a look at tach filters.

all 1990 tach are wrong. Mine was (it is).
I use an aftermarket one. When I see the red light of the shift light at 5500 rpm I can see also the stock tach well over 6500 out of scale...

I used to think that my car was idling at 950 RPM, until I tested it with an automotive multi-meter. It idles in the 720-730 range, makes me wonder how far off it is at 5000!
