Default Help...ECM removal on a 89..

I am replacing my stock computer with one programmed by Ski_Down_it (aka Jesse), luckily I have friend with a soldering station so he will have no problems unsoldering the old and resoldering the new one for me. My question is I would like any advise you guys can give me on getting the ECM out. I have a Haynes Manuel and it states the ECM on 84-89 ECMs are located under the instrument panel (Pg. 6-6). Even though I never dealt with ECMs before (my previous Vette was a 76 C-3) I thought the ECM was located under the passenger side behind the Crash pad.... Please , any advise and tips for the easiest removal of the ECM so I can get at the prom would be greatly appreciated...... Thanks in advance, Paul T

THe ECM is under the crash pad, pass. side. It's install in vertical position. Two bolts holding it. Very simple to take out and put back once you see it.

Good luck

Craig Marcho has great directions for this.

It's under the passenger hush panel. Get upside down and find it with a flashlight. Two screws and it will slide right out. Forget if I took the connector off first or after it was loose. Anyway, 5 minutes tops.

There should be nothing to solder. The old chip comes right out and the new pops right in.

Pete the chip I need unsoldered and the new on soldered is in the photo at http://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/te...om/1138119.jpg , Jesse sent me the brown chip on the left to replace (of course this isn't my pic but should be the same)...
