84' fan failure

That is NOTHING like the '84. On an '84 the fan switch is in the right HEAD, way above the starter, between the #6 and #8 spark plugs. And it doesn't have two wires that you could "Try jumping the two wires together". The switch activates the fan by grounding the primary side of the fan relay when the preset coolant temp is reached. The switch has a one wire connection and it grounds the circuit through the body of the switch to the head. You can test the fan switch by removing the wire from the switch and grounding it against the head (or anywhere). The fan relay is located on the left front inner fender, just below the master cylinder.

still searching
so far i haven't found anything wrong i checked the switch, replaced a suspicious looking relay with a new one, and soldered a wire back together! still no resluts.. is their a fuse i don't know about somewhere??

Did you test the fan by grounding the primary circuit wire, at the switch, as suggested. How did you check the switch? What does it do? Does the fan motor operate? Is the fan switch closing? Is the fan even supposed to be running? Have you checked all the branches of the two circuits for continuity? For shorts? If you will look in your FSM, you will find there is a fuse labeled "FAN" for the primary fan circuit and a fusible link for the secondary.
