I bet you can't wait to finish this project and enjoy the "proof in the pudding"!

You're right about both;
1. without Pete this would be "mission impossible"
2. I can't wait to see the result of this project
If you need any more pics, just let me know!

I have a Hayden 20000 GVW trans cooler.
I did some research and it looks like this size cooler
is for heavy towing applications.
Do you think that cooler this size could hurt transmission by
keeping fluid too cool?

I did some research on "copper lines" issue and here is what I
found out:
C/P from site: http://www.fbperformance.com/page.asp?get=14&t=Bottom2
So I threw copper lines away and had custom made teflon SS braided cooler lines.

11. COOLING LINES -Do not use copper line for cooling lines since it cannot withstand vibration and it will crack. Use steel brake line and flare the end of tubing if you are connecting it to a hose. This is done so that the line pressure will not push clamped hose off of the steel line. For racing applications, we recommend using braided steel lines and #6 fittings.

Wow I just saw this thread for the first time. thanks for posting up all those pics, that is really cool! I've always wondered what a tranny looked like all broken down.
Now I know I will never ever rebuild one myself
good work, thanks for the pics!

That dark filmy jam is lead. It's used during the assembly/milling process, for rounding off milled edges at start-up.
You'll find that film also in your tranny pan, and oil pan when you drop 'em...

On the road again!!!
Update:
I started the car yesterday, followed procedure for initial filling
of trans. fluid and then went for a test drive.
All I can say is WOOOW!
Shifting through gears is absolutely great. It is very firm and instant.
There is NO delay between moving the stick and shifting in both ways,
upshift or downshift.
I didn't drive much and I'm not sure if I should do some break-in period
or not, but maybe it's better to be safe than sorry, so I didn't rev much
past 3k rpm. I still have to see how it will perform on high revs, but for
now I must say that I'm more than satisfied with results.
There is however a problem and that is small ATF leak from right side of
tranny. I didn't have time to examine where it is coming from. It could
be from coller line fittings on tranny, dipstick tube, pan gasket.......
I'll have to wait till tomorrow to see where it's coming from.

Thank you cmontel727!
Dan_t, for now I have stock shifter. I did a lot of research but I can't
find shifter that would work for me. I'd like it to be ratchet type, but
I don't want to have to ratchet 6 or 7 times to get from P to 1st
gear and vice versa.

Where did you have the lines made up?
