This winter I am planning to do a bit of work on the car ('93 LT1, automatic). I am wondering if I remove the air pump do I save much hp? and I guess is this a good idea? Also what is the weight savings?
Thanks guys, you've all been helpful in the past to this newbie.

Reason: More info
It may be a step in cleaning up your engine compartment, but the A.I.R. pump draws very little power. Except for the "clean car" syndrome, there will be no noticeable difference.
I believe your 93 is like my 95 and the air pump is not belt driven. Removing it will not add any horsepower. Removing it will clean up the enigne compartment and may throw a code. I removed mine along with the EGR system when I installed headers.

LTx motors used an electric AIR pump so you would not see any appreciable gain in HP by removing it. As far as weight, I think the pump is mostly plastic and the hoses are failry thin rubber tubes. Maybe 5-7 pounds total.
If you have to do smog/emissions testing, you will most likely need the AIR pump to pass especially if a visual test is done.
It's electric and only runs for a few minutes after cold start up. You wouldn't be hammering on the car under these conditions anyways, so removing it won't do anything horsepower-wise.
